    "notes": "The number of people aged 45 years and over who retired from the labour force in a year, as the ABS Retirement and Retirement Intentions survey for each financial year estimates it, in persons: the ABS prints the estimate in thousands to three decimal places (155.628 for the 2024-25 survey) and this file holds that number times 1,000. Each observation is the survey's estimate for the year of retirement in which the survey's financial year began: Table 14 of the 2024-25 release lists the estimate under the year of retirement 2024, and the release's key statistics describe the same people as having retired in 2024-25 ('In 2024-25: 156,000 people aged 45 years and over retired'); the 2022-23 release's key statistics described its estimate as '130,000 people retired in 2022'. Each is the latest year of retirement with an estimate in its survey, because the survey runs across the financial year and asks people when they retired. The survey counts people who retired from the labour force whatever their income or its source; retiring is not the same as starting to receive the Age Pension. The series starts at the 2014-15 survey, the first on the current definition of retirement (see the retirees_45_plus series), and the survey has been run every two years since, so observations are two financial years apart; they are survey estimates, and each carries the ABS's relative standard error (rse, per cent) as published, between 8 and 16 per cent. Every observation is as the 2024-25 release gives it; a value that changes in a later release is recorded as a revision (update-series skill). The ABS publishes no movement between surveys, so movements_published is false. next_release is as for retirees_45_plus: marked estimated, because the ABS gives no date for the next release.",
