About this figure
The general transfer balance cap is indexed in line with the consumer price index, in increments of this amount. A person's own cap rises by a share of each increase, worked out from the highest balance their transfer balance account has had. A person whose highest balance has equalled or exceeded their cap is not eligible for indexation. The ATO says the transfer balance cap applies from 1 July 2017.
